This is a perfect day to get out and about. The sunshine hasn't been that abundant this Summer. But so what, that doesn't detract from the fact that nature can be enjoyed no matter what the circumstances, nice to feel the earth beneath our feet as opposed to concrete all the time. Nice to look up and see the canopy of leafy trees than the stark skyline of the built urban environment. Amazing that the main road and the Town Centre is only a matter of a few hundred yards away, yet once enclosed by the shrubbery and trees in the Woods, all that urban noise if filtered out, naturally. One would have thought you would have to scurry away to that hideaway, the Gnathole, or yomping over the Nab, trudge up Derbyshire level etc to find some solace and tranquility, but no need to do that when we have such a natural facility, when we have the Woods. New York has Central Park, Glossop has George Street Woods, and I reckon it is much quieter too!
It's picnic day, and a great day for it too, so lucky to have the woods so conveniently placed, no need to tramp upto far away fields when we have this lovely sunny glade right here in the centre. This coming Sunday
16th November - had some chippings given to us and we decided to spread them about the 'car park' Also did some tidying up in the woods and noted which trees have had branches cut from them
However, that was not because of any efforts by the objector puttig up a good case as he deludes himself but the fact the builders left their fence bejoynd the 2 year period, thus breaking our 20 years continued use - it was a mere technicality. The Inspector went on to comment on the quality of our witnesses and our case and for the period up to the George Street closure we had in fact satisfied all the criteria

Never mind, (VG126) other forces stand by our side

Even though the VG failed there is still the local plan and the evidence there is acknowledged by the council and supported by the fact that several planning applications have been rejected including an appeal throw out

It seems someone has sawn through our handrails, seemingly to allow for the placing something that looks like scrap metal, happily access has not been affected

Access continues

Someone keeps tipping scrap metal about the woods which impedes access a bit, but is easily circumvented and enjoyment of the woods unaffected as per usual - no one can beat the community!

Heard the habitats had been destroyed again (10th March 2015) but some kind people went in to the woods to re-establish them again - well done and good work! Nice to see the daffodils springing up! and loads of sap[lings, not bad for some land that some say is nothing but post-industrial Chernobylesque derelict wasteland!

Went in to add some more bird boxes, had been told access was restricted again but on arrival all open, no problems. We, Lorna, Collin and I added another 6 bird boxes but tried ot locate them in a more secluded spots so the birds might find the locations more safe.
BTW - I hear the people in Dubai don't like the Flintstones, yet the people in AbuDhabi do!

Not Quite a Rumble in the Jungle, but Fracas amongst the Fauna

Was in the Woods this morning when along came a spider with sledgehammer and other nasty tools (literally and metaphorically) A confrontation ensued and the police were called, after a false claim of assault was made, by those whom want to take what is not theirs, who want to deny the community the enjoyment and solace of the Woods, who want to tear down trees and run amock with chainsaws and sledgehammers, the ones that want to evict the birds and bees, who put avarice in place of egalitarianism and co-operative endeavour for the good of the local community. And more importantly wasting police time and public money making completely unfounded accusations of assault. But after this emotive outpouring, please be aware when you go into the Woods, you are safer with a witness, as false accusations are being made to the police. A point of Law - anyone, including obnoxious characters of dubious intent, in a public place, have a legal right to photograph whosoever they want. So please be understanding, you cannot confront anyone taking pics of you except to ask them not to. Holding up your hand to shield the view is not assault. That being said, I suppose the more pics that are taken of people in the Woods, the more evidence of ongoing and regular use and enjoyment - Thank you
Planted more saplings both at the bottom part of the Woods and the top
